Squirrel cage motors for air separator IC 81W
MENZEL have delivered a squirrel cage asynchronous motor to a customer that operates a process-relevant air separator in one of Argentina’s largest steel mills. Designed strictly according to customer specifications, the new motor reaches a 10,000 kW performance and a speed of 1,500 min-1. It will replace an original unit that has been in use for fifteen years. The customer wished to prepare a new unit for installation and to overhaul the existing machine before storing it as a spare unit. This required 100% mechanical and electrical compatibility, for example the new motor had to feature identical mounting dimensions, and the same particular inrush current of less than 450%, also all connections (main terminal box, cooling water, oil supply for plain bearings, various auxiliary terminal boxes) had to be in the exact same position to enable a quick changeover.

Cooling system IC81W: The heat loss generated inside the motor (stator and rotor) is transported to the air-water heat exchanger by an internal fan. The air-water heat exchanger cools the internal circuit air that flows through it down to the required temperature.
Variants, for instance in the case of speed control, forced ventilation or connection with air ducts are available as custom versions.
