Slip ring motors for cement plants IC 611

For a North-African cement plant, Menzel Elektromotoren have engineered and delivered different new motors, the largest being a 6-pole size 800 slip-ring motor with 4,800 kW rated power, 11,000 V rated voltage and a speed of 992 min-1. Because the customer wanted to retain the old starter for this motor, the new motor needed to feature completely identical rotor data. In addition, the customer requested a hydrostatic bearing for the motor. The high-pressure lubrication was to ensure that the rotor “floats” on an oil film even at low speeds or during complete standstill. Even though the timeframe for manufacture of such a large motor is often tight, Menzel is able to deliver on time. Customers can come to Berlin to see their motors tested in Menzel's in-house load-test-field, where the motor specialist has recently installed a second 9x3 meter test field.

Cooling system: The heat loss generated inside the motor (stator and rotor) is transported to the air-air heat exchanger by an internal fan. The air-air heat exchanger is cooled by a flow of ambient air coming from an external fan riding the shaft. The interior air passes the heat loss to the cooling pipes through which the external air is flowing. Variants, for instance in the case of speed control, forced ventilation or connection with air ducts of particularly slow-running motors, are available as custom versions.
