XY-TEK Ultrasonic Flow Sensors: Precision Across Medical, Bioprocess, and Automation
Ultrasonic Sensing for Critical Fluid Control
Why Precision Flow Sensing Matters More Than Ever
In sectors ranging from lifesupport medical equipment to highspeed automated manufacturing lines, the ability to accurately measure and monitor fluid flow without contaminating the process has become a critical requirement. Traditional mechanical flow meters introduce moving parts, pressure drops, and wear over time, while contactbased sensors risk crosscontamination. This has driven a shift toward noninvasive ultrasonic technology that can measure flow externally while maintaining fluid integrity.
The XY-TEK Ultrasonic Flow Sensor Portfolio
XYTEK has developed a comprehensive product line covering clampon, inline, singleuse, and bubble detection sensors, each designed for specific operational environments. Our core technologies rely on the ultrasonic timedifference method, enabling realtime, noncontact flow measurement with no moving parts.
1. CG Series Clampon Flow Sensor: A versatile clampon sensor with a flow range of 0.02 – 20 L/min and ±1 % accuracy. Featuring air bubble detection, bidirectional flow sensing, and multiple outputs (analog, pulse, RS485), it is widely used in industrial automation, biopharmaceuticals, and medical devices.
2. CPD Series Clampon Flow Sensor – A noninvasive industrial sensor (0.1 – 50 L/min, ±2 % accuracy) with builtin LED display. It is designed for water treatment, food & beverage, and semiconductor industries, supporting air bubble monitoring and digital output.
3. TPK / TPD Series Inline Flow Sensors – These inline meters (0.5 – 100 L/min, ±2 % accuracy) are constructed from stainless steel and engineering plastics, with no moving parts and low maintenance. They target industrial automation, battery manufacturing, chemical processing, and liquid cooling systems.
4. SU Series Singleuse Flow Sensor – Made of biocompatible polymer materials, this sensor measures 0.05 – 10 L/min and is intended for singleuse biopharma and medical manufacturing. It supports sterile applications and hygienic fluid monitoring.
5. TH Series Pulsatile Flow Sensor – A hemodynamic ultrasonic sensor (0.01 – 15 L/min, ±2 % accuracy) designed for cardiovascular flow testing in research and medical laboratories.
6. BG Series Bubble Detector – A noncontact ultrasonic bubble sensor with customizable detection range and response time, used in medical devices, bioprocess, and food & beverage dosing.
Precision in Practice: Key Application Scenarios
The versatility of XYTEK sensors is reflected in three major verticals:
1. Medical Device & LifeSupport Systems
XY-TEK flow sensors are used for noninvasive, contaminationfree monitoring of blood flow in dialysis machines, ECMO circuits, and artificial heart catheters. The CG series clamps onto medicalgrade soft tubing and detects air bubbles in extracorporeal circulation, directly improving patient safety.
2. Biopharmaceutical Process Flow
In cleanroom environments, our clampon sensors provide realtime monitoring of buffer solutions, culture media, and purified water without contacting the fluid. The SU series singleuse sensor further supports sterile applications for consumable bioprocess lines.
3. Industrial Automation & Precision Manufacturing
For spraying, dispensing, and cleaning systems, the CPD and TPK series deliver microflow resolution down to 0.05 mL/min. They operate reliably in dusty, humid environments, supporting closedloop control for German and U.S. factory applications.
Comparison with Conventional Flow Measurement
Compared to mechanical turbine or gear meters, ultrasonic flow sensors eliminate moving parts, pressure loss, and mechanical wear, which reduces maintenance and improves longterm reliability. They also avoid fluid contamination – a critical advantage in medical and bioprocess settings. (Note: Ultrasonic technology is best suited for clean, lowparticulate fluids; heavily aerated or highviscosity media may require alternative approaches.)
Outlook for Specialized Flow Sensors
As automation and precision medicine advance, the demand for compact, noninvasive, and highaccuracy flow sensors will continue to grow. XYTEK’s focused expertise on smalldiameter, lowflow applications positions us to serve both established medical OEMs and emerging industrial automation integrators. Further developments in sensor miniaturization, digital output standardization, and singleuse bioprocess compatibility will drive the next generation of our product roadmap.
