On July 29, 2024, the awarding ceremony for the Nankai University School of Artificial Intelligence—Yangtze Optical Electronic Co., Ltd. Practice Education Base was held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Attendees included Pi Yabin, Chairman and President of YOEC, Wang Boyang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Artificial Intelligence at Nankai University, representatives from the school, and company personnel.
The ceremony was hosted by Lian Zhenggang, General Manager of the R&D Center at YOEC. Mr. Lian introduced the background of the ceremony and the leaders from both sides, extending a warm welcome to the students and faculty from Nankai University and company colleagues present. President Pi remarked that in the current era of technological explosion, opportunities and challenges coexist. As a "hybrid" enterprise listed on the Sci-Tech Innovation Board, Yangtze Optical Electronic Co., Ltd. combines industrialized products, welfare benefits of public institutions, the research atmosphere of universities, and the R&D investment of research institutes. The company has a tradition of exploring the "industry-university-research-application" practice path with universities. President Pi fully affirmed the importance of the cooperation between the company and Nankai University’s School of Artificial Intelligence and expressed positive expectations for this collaboration.
Wang Boyang, the Deputy Secretary, introduced the development overview of the School of Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing three aspects for establishing the practice education base through university-enterprise cooperation: exploring new models of university-enterprise cooperation to make the practice education base a talent cultivation booster; promoting the development of scientific research projects and technological innovation to make the practice education base a growth point for the transformation of scientific research achievements; and encouraging students to broaden their horizons by stepping out of the school, making the practice education base a source for internships and practical experience.
Student representative Yu Jiaxuan pointed out that YOEC has a rigorous and realistic research atmosphere and a people-oriented corporate culture. The establishment of this practice education base will provide them with a learning platform integrating scientific research, technological development, and talent cultivation.
Subsequently, leaders from both sides jointly unveiled the base and took photos with the attendees to commemorate this historic moment. After the ceremony, Associate Professor He Kunpeng from the School of Artificial Intelligence gave a lecture titled "Challenging Dreams—Cultivating Innovation Capability of the 'Haitian Explorer'" as part of the Gewu Lecture Series. Combining his over twenty years of scientific research experience, Professor He shared his team's series of outstanding achievements in talent cultivation and maritime and aerospace navigation detection, making significant contributions to both military and civilian fields in China.
Finally, the attendees visited the company's R&D facilities and production environment. The successful holding of the unveiling ceremony marks a new milestone for YOEC in industry-university-research cooperation. We look forward to more fruitful results in talent cultivation and product development in the future, jointly creating a brighter future.
