What does the 1U snd 2U of the server mean? How many servers can be placed in a 42U rack?

1. What is 1U?

With the rapid development of enterprise informatization, the demand for server chassis is also increasing. In the limited space of the computer room, how to plan and implement reasonably, for us, we must pay attention to these problems. Rack servers have advantages over tower servers in terms of saving energy costs, maintenance costs, and environmental costs because of their flexible configuration and high computing density. These advantages provide a wide range of development space for the construction of large and medium-sized information systems for 1U servers chassis.

So what is a 1U rack mount server chassis ? The so-called 1U server is a high-availability and high-density low-cost server platform. U is the height of the server chassis. 1U is equal to 4.45 cm, so 3U is 3x4.5CM.

U (abbreviation for unit) is a unit that expresses the external dimensions of a modular rack, and the detailed dimensions are determined by the Electronic Industries Association (eia), an industry group.

The specified dimensions are width (48.26cm = 19 inches) and height (multiples of 4.445cm). chassis Racks that meet this requirement are sometimes referred to as "19-inch racks" because they are 19 inches wide. The thickness is based on 4.445cm.

U is not a server patent, it is a rack structure used for communication switching at the earliest, and the backup is referred to the rack of the server. Currently used as an informal standard for rack construction, including specified screw sizes, hole spacing, rails, etc.

1U and 2U are the thickness of the server. 1U is roughly equivalent to two small grids of the cabinet. Second, 1U, 2U, 4U, which server is better to choose? 2U is four lattices. 1U is 4.445 cm.

1U, 2U, 4U, which server is better to choose?

Our common rack-mounted servers are divided into 1U, 2U, and 4U. Now the popular servers in the market are 1U and 2U. So which is the best? In fact, there is no best product, only the most suitable product. Each product has its own characteristics. As long as we fully understand the product and our own needs, we can easily select the most suitable machine. Then there are 1U and 2U servers. What advantage?

1U rack mount chassis advantages: space saving, low hosting cost;

2U server chassis advantages: large expansion space, good heat dissipation;

If your server needs to load more than 4 hard disks, it is a good choice to choose a 2U server; if the server does not need to load too many external accessories, then a 1U server is fully capable, and 1U is the most suitable for computer room hosting. The 1U standard server cooling problem in the constant temperature and humidity environment of the professional IDC data center can also be well dealt with.

So what is a 1U server?

The height of 1U is limited, and there are special requirements for accessories, which will increase the cost of the overall hardware and the difficulty of selecting accessories. It can be said that a 1U server is a low-cost server platform with high availability and high density, which is specially designed for special application industries and high-density computer environments.

1U server space is limited, and there are certain limitations in scalability and heat dissipation. Generally, it is impossible to achieve complete equipment expansion. Compared with 1U server products, 2U has a moderate height, and its expandability (the number of hard disk storage, expansion slots, and power supply) has been significantly enhanced. Its heat dissipation has also been further improved. If the server hosting business is adopted, the hosting cost of a 1U server is higher than that of a 2U server. However, the specific choice of several U servers needs to be selected according to the project type and project scale, so as to avoid the waste of server resources and funds.

Common cabinet sizes? How many servers can be put in a 42u cabinet?

The reason for sizing the server is to keep the server properly sized to fit in an iron or aluminum rack. There are screw holes for fixing the server on the rack, so that it can align with the screw holes of the server, and then fix it with screws to facilitate the space required for each server to be installed.

The specified dimensions are the width (48.26cm = 19 inches) and height (multiples of 4.445cm) of the server. Racks that meet this requirement are sometimes referred to as "19-inch racks" because they are 19 inches wide. The thickness is based on 4.445cm, and 1U is 4.445cm.

1. What is the size of the 42u cabinet?

Answer: 42U is a server cabinet with a height of 2 meters, a width of 0.6 meters and a depth of 0.8 meters, and it may also be a server cabinet of 2 meters, a width of 0.6 meters and a depth of 0.96 meters;

2. How many servers can be placed in a 42U cabinet?

The number of servers in a rack is limited. A rack with a height of 42U does not mean that 42 1U servers can actually be placed, because you need to leave space for heat dissipation and movement, you need to consider power supply, you need to consider the overall heat dissipation, etc. There must be empty places for wiring up and down, as well as other places such as switches, firewalls, monitors, etc.

The proportion of a certain brand of 42U standard cabinet can be placed up to 18 servers. Why are there 20 units? There is space for heat dissipation between the 1U server and the 1U server. At the same time, a switch needs to be placed in the cabinet, which also requires 2U space. If it is a 2U server, you can generally put about 10 units, plus you need to place switches, routers and other equipment.

3. The power of the server

The power consumption provided by a cabinet is limited. When the server consumes more power, the less servers are placed. A cabinet generally provides 10A of power, and some cabinets can provide a higher 18A of power.

220V*10A=2200W. That is to say, as long as the total power of the server you put does not exceed 2200W, the power consumption of the server also depends on whether the server is not running at full capacity. Generally, the power consumption of non-full load operation is lower than the rated power marked on the server.Therefore, how many servers are placed in the cabinet also need to calculate the power.
