Types Of Shot Peening

common types of shot peening

Conventional Shot Peening: This is the most common form of peening, using spherical media (shot) propelled at high speed to impact the material surface.

Micro-peening uses smaller media (micro-balls) to achieve a finer surface finish and detailed work.

Laser peening uses high-energy laser pulses to create shock waves that induce compressive stresses in the material.

Cavitation peening uses ultrasonic vibrations in a liquid medium to create cavitation bubbles, which collapse on the material surface, generating compressive stresses.

Ultrasonic peening combines ultrasonic vibrations with traditional peening media to enhance impact energy and uniformity of coverage.

Wet peening, also known as slurry peening, involves using a mixture of peening media and liquid (usually water) to achieve a smoother surface finish and reduce dust generation.

Dual peening involves performing two peening processes using different media sizes or intensities to achieve specific surface characteristics and stress distribution.
